Subject: Traumatic Brain Injury Resource
Greetings PENT Cadre Members, Supporters, Champions, ListServ Members, and SELPA Directors,
Many of us have been challenged by the occasional student with an IEP, or student with no IEP as of yet, who have suffered a traumatic brain injury or post-concussion syndrome.
I want to make you aware of a resource that you may find helpful. The TBI Domains of Functioning Scales and the TBI Domains of Functioning Aggregation Guide are tools that can assist you in compiling observation reports and other data following a head trauma and developing IEPs to provide benefit for this misunderstood population. Both the discussion guide and fill-in form can be found on the PENT website at:
Both resources are contained in the new book that is just out by my friend and colleague, Dr. Jarice Butterfield, SELPA Director, myself, and Melissa Hatch, Attorney-at-Law. This has been a long time coming for me as this population has been an interest to me and a research endeavor for over 20 years.
The book, Traumatic Brain Injuries: Best Practices for Compliant Student Services, is available at www.shoplrp.com and systematically addresses many of the academic and behavioral needs of this population. I believe it may be very useful for developing behavior plans for this population as they frequently require both accommodations and behavior plans. It is really a one-of-a-kind manual, a long time coming and a labor of love by the three authors.
We hope you find the book and forms helpful in your practice.
None of us is as skilled as all of us!
