Greetings PENT Cadre members, SELPA Directors, and Supporters-at-Large:

I have been out and about doing trainings across the country. Recently, I did a conference in Oklahoma. I met some really wonderful educators and attorneys at this conference. We have received formal permission for me to disseminate the attached PowerPoint. I find this description of the differences between NCLB and ESSA succinct and helpful. For those of us who need a quick guide to the federal changes this may be helpful for us. What stands out to me is the change in eliminating  the "highly qualified" provision. This may affect the scheduling of many children with IEP in high schools. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a new IDEA aligned with ESSA In the foreseeable future. But, who knows!

Wishing you the best and hope to see you very soon in the field or at the Forum.
